Since our inception in 1990, we’ve seen our commercial signs in MA work to help a variety of different businesses succeed. There are many factors to consider when choosing the right kind of sign for your business. And, unlike most Massachusetts sign companies, Sign Effects goes above and beyond to inform our customers about everything that goes into the effective use of signs and advertising. It’s a fact that humans are naturally very visual creatures and respond in certain ways to different forms of visual stimuli. On a psychological level, colors have definite inherent qualities that elicit certain feelings in a person.
The sign for your business is the first thing a customer sees that informs them as to what goods or services your business provides, so it’s important to design a sign that effectively communicates exactly what your business does. Some basic aspects of designing a sign are the color combinations you’d like to use. For example, the color yellow generally elicits feelings of happiness in a person. This is the reasoning behind McDonald’s yellow golden arches. The McDonald’s sign is also a good example of the use of differing background and foreground colors.
How Colors Work
An effective sign is one that has a graphic or logo that is easy to read or understand with a background color that accentuates the foreground. You don’t want to have a sign with a background that overshadows the logo or graphic in the foreground. You also don’t want to have a sign that includes colors or images that don’t help to accent your business. Sometimes a simple white on black or black on white sign is an effective enough color scheme to attract customers. We’ve seen this to be highly effective with the many vehicle wraps in MA we’ve made and the many signs in Billerica, MA that we’ve made.
Some well known examples of colored logos include IBM’s use of blue, which instills a sense of confidence in a person. Starbuck’s use of green reminds customers that they’re a company that is environmentally friendly while Dunkin Donut’s use of orange instills a sense of joy and optimism in people. Pink is used by Victoria’s Secret to exude a sense of femininity and romanticism in their customers while Hallmark’s use of purple works to express a somewhat regal elegance in their products.
At Sign Effects, we can effectively work with you to come up with a logo, graphic design, or a sign that is perfect for your business.
